Gayton Road, Harrow with Dr Sturge. Special clinics for children with ADHD are run in conjunction with school health. The service has been reorganised in line with the Health Advisory Service report and there are plans to expand these to cater for the needs of older adolescents, up to age 19.
The work is multi-disciplinary with teams including clinical psychologists, specialist nurses, social workers, a psychotherapist and a drama therapist. Medical staff include the two consultants, a specialist registrar in child psychiatry, associate specialist in paediatrics and a clinical assistant. The SHO does not do out-of-hours work. Research and audit projects are encouraged.
Tuesdays, all day, include a number of fixed commitments (ie team meetings in the hospital and community clinics, a ward round and staff in-service training programme). Consequently this placement is not suitable for trainees who, for whatever reason cannot attend on a Tuesday.

The audit programme is equally strong. There is a half day per month set aside for audit activities and support in undertaking audit is available from the clinical audit department. Many trainees have been successful in obtaining audit bursaries to support their audit work.
The hospital has a purpose built Postgraduate Centre. There are extensive library facilities. Computing and Internet facilities are available. The postgraduate centre holds seminars and lectures three times a week. The departmental education programme is one and a half hours a week.
Learning in psychological methods of treatment is available from the clinical psychology department who are happy to accommodate trainees on request.
All on call is on the district general hospital site.
The locality is an affable one. The patient case mix is not unduly weighted towards major psychosis.
